Supply chain consultant & technology provider

Specialist in strategic planning & operational optimisation

I embarked on my professional journey in 1998 as a fresh-faced graduate with the Sequoia Partnership. It was more than just a job—it was a remarkable apprenticeship that provided invaluable insights into how supply chains should work.

Experience

I've worked on some incredible projects over the last 25 years - here's a snippet of my experience:

Network design / supply chain strategy / footprint optimisation

Network optimisation for FTSE 100 packaging manufacturer

-Supported the leadership team in the development of a £x00m investment plan to maximise return on capital and meet future growth expectations.

-Collected and sanitised data from a wide range of internal sources to establish a ‘Digital Twin’ that was validated against actual costs.

-Provided modelling support for Blue Sky & Brownfield manufacturing footprints as well as warehouse network optimisation.

-Facilitated the team through a data driven approach to evaluate an extensive ‘long list’ of potential scenarios & generate the final proposed infrastructure plan.

Supply chain strategy for UK Soft drinks manufacturer

-Defined the optimal supply chain network for one of the UK’s leading soft drinks’ manufacturers.

-Determined the optimal size and location of manufacturing / distribution facilities, trading off production scale economies with distribution costs to define the ideal number and location of production lines.

-Generated a transition plan to deliver the best achievable financial return whilst satisfying capacity constraints and mitigating supply risk during major restructuring programme.

European distribution strategy for €10bn multinational appliance manufacturer

-Conducted a detailed data gathering exercise to determine the underlying supply chain trade-offs for a ‘White Goods’ manufacturer.

-Having sanitised the data, we entered it into a distribution model that used AI techniques to determine the optimal European network of Distribution Centres.

-By minimising the combined costs of distribution, warehousing and inventory, we were able to define the distribution network with the lowest cost to serve.

Optimal depot network for Bed retailer

-Optimised number and location of home delivery depots for UK Bed retailer, trading off warehouse, trunking and last mile costs to define optimal network.

-Directed warehouse capacity simulation for National Distribution Centre (NDC) to determine NDC capacity utilisation & anticipated customer lead-times given long supply lead-times, uncertain forecasts and a highly seasonal demand peak.

Manufacturing strategy for leading UK Dairy producer

-Modelled optimal number & location of manufacturing facilities to balance scale benefits of large scale dairy operation with inbound and outbound distribution costs.

Fulfilment strategies for direct sales cosmetics business

-Optimised number & location of Distribution Centres across Europe/Russia to migrate a rapidly expanding cosmetics business to a centralised DC network.

-Completed follow up assignments to optimise number & location of Distribution Centres for multi-channel fulfilment in 3 growing markets (India, Indonesia & Mexico).

Online fulfilment strategy for ‘Big Four’ UK supermarket

-Devised optimal online grocery fulfilment strategy for major supermarket to meet online growth ambitions.

-Examined scale benefits of automated Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) to optimise size, location and type of facility to supplement existing store picking capacity.

-Modelled distribution costs of CFC-to-spoke trunking and customer density impacts on last mile efficiencies.

Internal research study of Ocado’s business model

-Conducted an ‘outside-in’ assessment of Ocado’s centralised approach to online grocery fulfilment.

-Concluded that automated CFCs are the most profitable fulfilment approach for online grocery orders – which ran counter to the low stock market valuation at the time (Oct 2011).

Supply chain operational optimisation experience

EMEA Supply chain optimisation for ingredients business of Soft drinks brand owner

-Reviewed complex ingredients supply chain operation and identified opportunities to improve service and reduce cost.

-Conducted an inventory simulation including obsolescence costs to determine which product ‘kits’ could be held in stock without excessive write-off costs due to shelf life expiration.

Batch size optimisation for global lubricants manufacturer

-Optimised Economic Production Quantities to minimise end-to-end supply chain costs for a global lubricants business.

-Quantified changeover costs in a complex manufacturing operation to trade-off with inventory costs & obsolescence risks in the distribution network.

Production scheduling optimisation

-Optimised production schedules for FMCG clients by balancing sequence changeovers with inventory and obsolescence costs.

-Built prototype excel-based Master Production Schedule tool with interactive Gantt chart display and quantified obsolescence risk for Russian dairy business.

Safety stock optimisation

-Set safety stock targets for multiple clients to achieve desired service levels at SKU-location level.

-Conducted training sessions in statistical stock theory.
